Reading

From reading words to understanding them

Comprehension, fluency and vocabulary — children learn to find information, read between the lines, and enjoy books beyond the syllabus.

What your child learns

  1. Reading aloud with pace and expression
  2. Finding answers inside a passage
  3. Working out unfamiliar words from context
  4. Inference — what the text implies

How we teach it

A child who decodes fluently may still miss the point of a page. Sessions pair fluency practice with questions that cannot be answered by copying a line. Vocabulary is collected from real reading, not from lists, so new words arrive with a context already attached.

We assess every child before we place them, so they start in the right place.

What changes

  • Answers comprehension questions accurately
  • Reads longer texts without losing thread
  • Chooses to read outside class

Every child progresses at their own pace. We track it and tell you honestly how it is going.
